The theoretical decisions
The first step in designing an efficient space heating system is understanding the specific needs of the property. This begins with a thorough assessment of heat loss, which determines the required size and capabilities of the system. The goal is to supply each room with just enough heat to maintain the target temperature—no more, no less.
Due to space restrictions, one fixed aspect of the design is the location of the indoor unit. Fortunately, a cupboard in the hall, which backs up to a wardrobe in a bedroom, provides a ceiling void large enough to house both the indoor unit and the manifold. This void is within the insulated envelope of the house, ensuring there is no parasitic heat loss from the unit. From this location, the unit will draw air directly from the hallway.
